  1.                        SEARCHING THE DATABASE:
  2.     The CD-ROM version of The World Almanac allows you to search
  3. the entire book for a word or combination of words, or to limit
  4. your search to just one or more specific sections of the book.  Also,
  5. using combinations of AND, OR (Boolean operators) allows you to make
  6. searches even more specific.
  7.  
  8.     The search term BEATLES AND LENNON would find sections where
  9. both the words "Beatles" and "Lennon" both appeared.
  10.     
  11.     The search term BEATLES OR LENNON would find sections where 
  12. either the words "Beatles" or "Lennon" appeared.
  13.  
  14.     Phrases should be enclosed in double quotes. For example: a 
  15. search on "UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY" would find articles
  16. which contained these four words contiguous to each other.

  19.     You can limit your search to one or more sections of The World
  20. Almanac by moving to the appropriate button(s) and pressing Return to
  21. select.  Or you can select ALL SECTIONS and search the entire book for
  22. your text.  Use the mouse or TAB key to navigate between buttons.
  23. The F2 key or up and down arrow keys will switch you between the top
  24. set of buttons and the bottom set or action set.

  26.    The SEARCH button will perform the search on the text you entered
  27. and the section(s) of the book you selected.  The CONTENTS button will
  28. present you with a list of 49 primary levels of the book and by
  29. selecting one of those will then present you with a list of secondary
  30. topics or sub-sections. You can then view the text by selecting one of
  31. the secondary levels.

  33.    The BROWSE button will invoke an alphabetical list of all words
  34. contained in The World Almanac.
